Geld.Macht.Liebe ( own spelling GELD.MACHT.LIEBE ) is a German television series produced by Tivoli Film / Lisa Film for ARD and ORF in 2008/2009 . The series was discontinued after the first season due to bad ratings. A new edition or continuation is not planned.

action

The series is about the von Rheinberg family, owners of the private bank von Rheinberg and the social center of Frankfurt (Main). The company has been run by Markus von Rheinberg since his father's death. The businessman, who appears impeccable on the outside due to his manners, is often not very squeamish behind the scenes and also uses dubious business methods to protect the bank and his family.

He and his wife Sophia have three children: Elena, who runs the family stud farm and has two children herself with the Argentinean Martine La Rocca, Frank, the sensitive son who is traded as the successor to the Rheinberg dynasty, and Marietta, the spoiled baby who spends most of his time with parties and other amusements. The matriarch is that of Rheinberg's Markus' mother Lilo, who always tries to protect the family's reputation with a strict code of values.

The family became uneasy when Mona Sailer, Markus' sister, reappeared with her daughter Ariane after 30 years after she had turned her back on the family and claimed her share in the bank. In addition, Frankfurt's head of economic affairs, Alexander Blessmann, has sworn revenge on the Rheinbergs because he blames them for his father's death. These disruptive factors mean that the carefully constructed family facade begins to crumble and the machinations of Markus von Rheinberg come to light.

Filming

Villa Wertheimber in Bad Homburg

The shooting lasted from April 22, 2008 to June 26, 2009. The locations were Bad Homburg and Frankfurt am Main. In Bad Homburg, a villa that was specially converted for this television series and represents the family home of the von Rheinberg family became the central location. Christine Kabisch directed episodes 1 to 13, Helmut Metzger directed episodes 14 to 20.

Others

  • The series was conceived around the role of Markus von Rheinberg, portrayed by castle actor Roland Koch, as he was the actor from the start.
  • Initially, 13 episodes were planned for the first season. Further episodes were ordered while filming was still in progress, so that the first season now includes the pilot film and 19 episodes.
  • Right from the start of the shooting, the series had an internet presence, on which background information about the making, information about the actors and the production team as well as the status of the shooting could be called up. However, the domain mentioned in the credits (www.geldmachtliebe.de) is no longer available.
  • The Tivoli Film company relocated its headquarters to Bad Homburg in the villa that was converted for the series.
  • In reporting on the series, comparisons were often made with the series Das Erbe der Guldenburgs and Dallas , as Geld.Macht.Liebe is designed according to a similar model.
