Spatial data infrastructure Rhineland-Palatinate

The spatial data infrastructure Rhineland-Palatinate (GDI-RP) was defined in the Council of Ministers resolution of May 24, 2005 as the nationwide goals of a spatial data infrastructure .

They are to be implemented in the context of the state's eGovernment initiative. In addition to the construction and implementation of a GeoPortal with visualization functions, the decentralized spatial data stocks are to be made accessible and networked nationwide. This creates framework conditions for the use of geospatial data over the Internet.

The Interministerial Committee for Geoinformation Rhineland-Palatinate (IMAGI-RP) was set up to coordinate and coordinate the requirements across disciplines and levels. When the State Geodata Infrastructure Act (LGDIG) came into force on December 23, 2010, the IMAGI-RP was replaced by the Steering Committee for Spatial Data Infrastructure. The steering committee coordinates the establishment and operation of the spatial data infrastructure and the Rhineland-Palatinate geoportal. In order to carry out its tasks, the steering committee for spatial data infrastructure is supported by a central office for spatial data infrastructure in Rhineland-Palatinate. The State Office for Surveying and Basic Geographic Information Rhineland-Palatinate is the central office for the spatial data infrastructure in Rhineland-Palatinate and runs the Rhineland-Palatinate geoportal.

The central element of the spatial data infrastructure in Rhineland-Palatinate is the GeoPortal.rlp, which forms an internet-based information and communication platform. Users of geodata can find out about available geodata stocks there. The GeoPortal.rlp enables direct access to the decentralized geodata stocks using GeoWebServices. With the concept of distributed data storage, responsibility for one's own data remains with the originally responsible body, which in this context also ensures that it is maintained and up-to-date. In GeoPortal.rlp, distributed spatial data can be accessed directly.
