When the State Geodata Infrastructure Act (LGDIG) came into force on December 23, 2010, the IMAGI-RP was replaced by the Steering Committee for Spatial Data Infrastructure. The steering committee coordinates the establishment and operation of the spatial data infrastructure and the Rhineland-Palatinate geoportal. The State Office for Surveying and Basic Geographic Information Rhineland-Palatinate is the central office for the spatial data infrastructure in Rhineland-Palatinate and runs the Rhineland-Palatinate geoportal.
The central element of the spatial data infrastructure in Rhineland-Palatinate is the GeoPortal.rlp, which forms an internet-based information and communication platform. Users of geodata can find out about available geodata stocks there. The GeoPortal.rlp enables direct access to the decentralized geodata stocks using GeoWebServices. With the concept of distributed data storage, responsibility for one's own data remains with the originally responsible body, which in this context also ensures that it is maintained and up-to-date.
