Georg Kugi

Georg Kugi (* 1961 in Villach ) is an Austrian conductor and music teacher .

Life

Kugi studied flute at the Klagenfurt Conservatory and graduated in 1979 with a concert diploma. He then studied music education and instrumental music education at the Vienna University of Music , where he did his MA in 1987 . He was trained as a conductor by Herwig Reiter . He then took master classes with Erwin Ortner , Eric Ericson , Bruno Weil and Hellmuth Rilling. From 1985 to 1987 he directed the independent Viennese theater group Bretterhaus and the Vienna Mozart Orchestra . From 1986 to 1999 he was a member of the flute ensemble Vienna Flautists; He also founded the Collegium Vocale Marchfeld choir in 1991, where he sings tenor .

Since 1992, Kugi has participated in concerts and CD recordings by the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra from Hungary, the Alma Ata Soloist Academy from Kazakhstan and the Košice State Philharmonic from Slovakia . He has had other recordings and concerts with the Slovak Chamber Orchestra , the Hermitage Symphony Orchestra of St. Petersburg , the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava , the Toronto Philharmonia , the Zagreb Philharmonic and the Capella Istropolitaner.

Kugi is currently teaching aural training intensive and music theory in the lower grades at the Musikgymnasium Wien . There he leads one of two lower school orchestras, the lower school choir and the male choir. He is also a professor of music theory. He is chief conductor of the International Danube Philharmonic Orchestra . Concert tours have taken him around the world.
