Georgina Theodora Wood

Georgina Theodora Wood (born June 8, 1947 in Ghana as Georgina Theodora Lutterodt ) is the acting Chief Justice in Ghana . She succeeded George Kingsley Acquah, who died on March 25, 2007, in office on June 15, 2007 as the first woman in the history of Ghana . She is the 12th person in this post in Ghana since the country's independence and one of the youngest people ever to hold this post in Ghana.

Wood attended the Bishop's Girls Schol, the Methodist School in Dodowa and moved to the Mmofraturo Girls School in Kumasi (1952-1960). She then went to Wesley Girl's High School in Cape Coast , where she finished her education in 1966. After graduating from high school, she first studied for six months at the Ghana Police College and worked as Vice Superintendent in the Ghanaian Police Service for three years. Wood returned to training, however, and began studying law at the University of Ghana in Legon, a suburb of Accra , and graduated with an LLB (Hons.) In 1970.

Career

She began to work in the judicial service of Ghana and worked as a judge first at the District Magistrate, later at the Circuit Court and High Court , until she was appointed to the Court of Appeal in 1991. Wood became a judge on the Accra Supreme Court in November 2002 . In 2006, before her appointment as Chief Justice, she chaired the Georgina Wood Committee named after her. On June 1, 2007, the Ghanaian Parliament approved the appointment of Judge Wood, and on June 15, she assumed the post of Chief Justice.
