Gerechtsdeurwaarder

In the Netherlands , a bailiff is known as a Richtsdeurwaarder and is a civil servant and a self-employed entrepreneur.

The official duties of the Dutch Gerechtsdeurwaarder are:

  • the service of summons and other documents instituting proceedings or instructions in legal matters,
  • the service of court orders, notices, complaints and other documents,
  • Evictions , garnishments, foreclosures , detention for failure to comply with a court order and other actions required to enforce enforcement titles or to secure rights,
  • the official supervision of voluntary public auctions of movable property.

In the Netherlands, the Dutch Bailiffs Act applies with effect from July 15, 2001. According to the law, all Dutch bailiffs are mandatory members of the Royal Professional Association of Dutch Bailiffs ( Koninklijke Beroepsorganisatie van Gerechtsdeurwaarders or KBvG). The association is entrusted with the task of promoting good professional practices within the professional group.
