Gerry O'Sullivan

Gerry O'Sullivan ( April 1, 1936 - August 5, 1994 ) was an Irish politician with the Irish Labor Party .

Life

O'Sullivan, who was a professional worker in a factory and safety officer, was first in the local politics active and long-standing member of the City Council of Cork ( Cork City Council ). After he succeeded Dan Wallace as Lord Mayor of Cork ( Lord Mayor ) between 1986 and 1987 , he began his national political career with an unsuccessful candidacy for the Irish Labor Party in the 1987 general election.

In the general election on June 15, 1989 he was with the best result of the other constituency candidates to the deputy ( Teachta Dála ) in the lower house ( Dáil Éireann ) and represented in this up to his death on August 5, 1994 the constituency of Cork North-Central . In addition, he was again elected in the local elections on June 27, 1991 with the best result in the constituency of Cork North West as a member of the Cork City Council.

Between January 14, 1993 and his death, he was also Minister of State in the Ministry of the Navy, responsible for port development, safety at sea and inland fisheries , and was a member of the coalition government of the Irish Labor Party and Fianna Fáil , led by the Prime Minister ( Taoiseach ) .
