Gescom

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gescom is an electronic music project from England that releases its music under the Skam Records label . The meaning of the name is unclear. It is believed that Gescom is the abbreviation for Gestalt Communications , Global Enterprise Communication Systems or Global Engineering Systems Components . The music of the project takes up elements from electronic music , hip-hop and intelligent dance music .

Gescom has been named as Autechre's side project in various press reports , but is actually an alias under which over 20 different musicians have published, including Autechre's Rob Brown and Sean Booth. It is generally not known which musician was involved in which track, as there are only a few references to the producers of the individual releases.

history

In 1993, Autechre's debut album Incunabula was released on Warp Records . The motto Gescom "Pleasure is Our Business" and Darrell Fitton 4 Gescom were printed on the back of the album cover . The album's Thanks to All list included a number of later Gescom musicians.

In 1994, the self-titled EP Gescom appeared on the record label Skam Records as the first independent publication . The cover featured Sean Booth and Rob Brown from Autechre as well as Darrell Fitton (aka Bola), Rob Hall (Skam Records) and Daniel 72 (a musician and designer from near Manchester) as "conspirators". In the same year that followed motor EP on by Move D , founded Heidelberg Label Source Records .

The EP Gescom 2 was also released on Skam in 1995 and performed as "conspirators" Sean Booth and Rob Brown and Andy Maddocks. This was followed by the EP The Sounds of Machines Our Parents Used , which was released on the British label Clear .

In the same year the EP Key Nell was released , the liner notes contained the text "Conceived & secreted by Gescom.". In 1996 the Keynell was released on Warp Records , which contained Autechre remixes of the original EP. The liner notes only contained a reference to the reworking by Autechre: “Conceived & secreted by Gescom. Additional nurturing & care from Autechre. "

In 1998 the EPs This followed with remixes of "Ae" (Autechre) and Velocity Kendall, as well as That with remixes of Tara, Pharoid with Time Chamber, Gescom and DC Duo's.

Also in 1998, Minidisc, the world's first MiniDisc- only publication, was released. The album contained 45 tracks that were separated into 88 individual fragments. The pieces could be played in any order and repeated any number of times. DSP techniques were used for the songs on this album . The pieces are largely based on drones and ambient sound, but also take up elements from the noise genre.
