The Emmendingen Commercial and Home Economics and Social Care Schools (GHSE) are the largest of the three vocational schools run by the Emmendingen district . All degrees of the German school system can be obtained here - the secondary school leaving certificate , the intermediate educational qualification , the technical college entrance qualification and the general university entrance qualification , the Abitur.

history

Most of the school is commercial. Founded in 1836, it is one of the oldest trade schools in Baden and was exclusively a trade school for more than a hundred years. In 1973 the technical high school was located there, in 1989 a nursing school for the elderly, and in 1993 they merged with the neighboring housekeeping school. Since 2011 there has also been a social science grammar school, since 2012 also as an advanced grammar school from the eighth grade. In 2012, the Emmendingen commercial and home economics and social care schools qualified as one of the 15 best German schools for the final of the German School Prize .

Location and size

In the 2019/2020 school year, around 2,200 students will be taught by around 170 teachers in 14 types of school and around 100 classes. More than half of all students do dual training and attend vocational school . The school grounds include several building complexes. In addition to the main building, these include wood, metal, automotive, electrical and plastic workshops, two sports halls, a cafeteria and a utility building with several school kitchens and textile workshops. In spring 2020, a new modular building with 10 classrooms will expand the space available.
