Giampietrino , actually Giovanni Pietro Rizzoli , (documented from 1495 to 1549), was an Italian painter of the Lombard school and the Leonardo circle .

Very productive painter of large altarpieces, Madonnas, half-length female saints and mythological female figures. For a long time, the true identity of the artist, known only as the so-called Giampietrino , was unknown. In 1929 Suida suggested that it might be a Giovanni Battista Belmonte , as a Madonna signed with this name from 1509 has been associated with Giampietrino. However, since this plaque was poorly preserved, he did not want to finally decide whether it was actually in his own hand. This assumption is now considered outdated and he is predominantly identified with a Giovanni Pietro Rizzoli who has been handed down through documents .

Giampietrino can be seen as an extremely talented painter who contributed significantly to the spread of the late Leonardo da Vinci style . He adapted numerous models from Leonardo's, but also left numerous good compositions of his own. Many pictures have been preserved in several versions.
