Equilibrium moisture content

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Equilibrium moisture (also: equilibrium moisture , balance moisture , practical moisture content ) is the water content that results in a building material after a long period of storage in a room with constant relative humidity and constant temperature.

Due to their internal structure (type, number, size and distribution of the cavities), hygroscopic materials (such as building materials, paper), depending on the relative humidity and temperature of the ambient air, have a very specific moisture content, which will increase after the Setting in the air.

The movement of moisture between the material and the environment continues until the water vapor partial pressure (in the material and in the environment) is equal. This sorption mainly takes place in the first one to two centimeters of the wall surface.

DIN 4108-4 specifies the practical moisture content for a variety of building materials, such as B .:

  • Bricks: 1.5 vol%
  • Concrete: 15% by volume
  • Wood: 15% by mass
  • Aerated concrete: 4.5 mass%
