from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Globethics.net is a global network of people and institutions interested in different areas of ethics . It provides access to documents on ethics, particularly through its leading global digital ethics library. It enables joint internet-based research, conferences, online publications and an active exchange of information.

Globethics.net particularly promotes better visibility and access to ethical perspectives from Africa, Latin America and Asia. It strengthens common global values and respect for contextual ethical diversity, including the richness of languages, religions and worldviews.

Emergence

Globethics.net was founded by Christoph Stückelberger, professor of ethics at the University of Basel, and other international ethicists in Geneva in 2005. The organization was founded with the aim of providing access to resources, debates and contacts for academics and institutions involved in ethics on all continents. Above all, it would like to make the perspectives of scientists and institutions from Africa, Latin America and Asia visible, as their perspectives are still strongly underrepresented in the global ethics debate. Globethics.net changed its legal structure to a foundation under Swiss law at the beginning of 2009.

Library

In an effort to give the global south access to sources of knowledge, Globethics.net launched a global digital library on ethics in October 2008. The Globethics.net library is a purely digital library with no physical existence. It focuses on applied ethics and is accessible from anywhere in the world. The special focus is on developing and emerging countries and the aim is to integrate as many different languages as possible.

The following are available free of charge:

  • Access to journals, magazines, books, teaching materials, dissertations and new documents on applied ethics. Care is taken to ensure that these are full-text documents that are freely available to everyone.
  • Access to protected content such as journals, encyclopedias and e-books. (These are only accessible to registered users, with Globethics.net paying the copyright fees.)
  • The possibility of adding your own documents and publications to the library (only for registered participants).

research

The international secretariat of Globethics.net coordinates a number of research projects in addition to the self-initiated projects of working groups and the joint research projects of participants in the network. These projects aim to motivate researchers from all parts of the world to get involved in global ethical issues. In addition, the Secretariat brings together ethical perspectives from all continents of the world and brings them together. The results of these research projects are published in Globethics.net book series and are available in full text version in electronic format in the Globethics.net library.
