It is usually round with a diameter of one to three centimeters, depending on the duration of the manufacturing process, the diameter can also be up to eight centimeters.

The term gobstopper is derived from gob , British slang for 'mouth'.

Gobstoppers are usually made up of several layers, with each layer, as it dissolves, revealing a different colored layer (sometimes one with a different flavor) before dissolving completely.

The production of a gob stop takes between five and twenty days. Gobstoppers are made from layers that slowly settle on a core (such as pressed sugar or chewing gum). Gobstoppers are made in large, rotating, heated basins. The gobstoppers can be bought in Germany under the name "Monsterbugeln", they usually have a chewing gum core.
