from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gold rush! 2 is a point-and-click adventure that 2017 Sunlight Games develops and by Sunlight Games and KISS ltd was published. Doug MacNeill and Marco Sowa wrote the story. The game was released on April 28 for Windows, macOS and Linux. The ports were developed afterwards.

action

Jerrod Wilson left his home in Brooklyn, New York during the gold rush of 1849 to find his brother, who had to leave the city 11 years earlier. After a long time, Jerrod and Jake found a large gold vein together in California. The game takes place in 1868, and for 20 years they uncovered the gold in the mine. They sent most of the proceeds from the mine to Mr. Quail, a banker and family friend, who invested the proceeds. This gave the brothers considerable wealth and influence.

Mr. Quail kept sending them news from home. So they learn that William Tweed, whom Jerrod and Jake know as the leader of a gang of thieves and blackmailers and because of which Jake had to leave Brooklyn, has become very influential. He now serves in the state government and the members of his gang hold central positions in Brooklyn. With the police on Tweed's payroll, he and his gang were able to continue their corrupt machinations unmolested.

Jake and Jerrod decide to sell their mine and take the newly built, transcontinental railroad back to Brooklyn. The brothers have evidence that will bring Tweed to jail for the rest of his life. Tweed learns of her return and does everything possible to prevent her from doing so.

Game principle and technology

As with the predecessor, you have to solve puzzles and quests and use objects accordingly. Communication with NPCs in the game is also important. Like its predecessor, the game offers some historical information. Among other things, it shows how California has changed since the gold rush in the first part 20 years earlier. The journey back to Brooklyn takes place on the transcontinental railroad that has just been built and then experiences Brooklyn in New York during the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Production notes

Gold rush! 2, like the remake of the original Gold Rush! Developed by Sunlight Games. The story is by Doug MacNeill and Marco Sowa.

Adventure Corner 49%
Adventure Gamers 2/5

Gold rush! 2 received rather negative reviews. The German trade magazine Adventure Corner praised the English language version of the game, but criticized an uninteresting story, generic graphics, undemanding puzzles and gross technical inadequacies. The magazine recommended the game only for players who like its predecessor Gold Rush! Anniversary . The US magazine Adventure Gamers found positive words for the embedding of historically significant places in the game world and for the background story of the game, which otherwise "let the player fall asleep in a chair". The magazine criticized a non-existent character drawing, rudimentary puzzles and an "amateurish low-budget visualization".
