Golly's garage
Golly's garage was a gas station at the Earl's Court Road in London district of Earls Court . It was considered a pre-eminent example of International Style in the UK, and an ideal example of a 1930s gas station. The gas station was demolished in the 1980s.
The petrol station was built in 1937/1938 by architects Seymer, Orman and Adie at the intersection of Earl's Court Road / Redfield Lane and expanded by architects Chesterton and Sons from 1959 to 1961.
The roof contained numerous glass blocks to ensure a high incidence of daylight, while the design of the entire system was based on the department store buildings by Erich Mendelsohn in Germany. The facade of the gas station was decorated with decorative ceramic tiles.
