The software was released on June 8, 2006. The Firefox extension is no longer being developed and was only supported by companies until the end of 2008. The servers are no longer available. However, the code was released by Google on July 8, 2008 and placed under a BSD license . However, since only the code for the extension was published, but the server software would have to be completely rewritten by volunteers based on the functional documentation of the old servers, it seems unlikely that the software will ever be usable again for end users. functionality

Google Browser Sync required a Google account in which the cookies , saved passwords, bookmarks, the history of the pages visited, the tabs and windows were stored. The data was encrypted using a PIN . This made it impossible even for Google to read the data. Passwords and cookies are also always encrypted by the Firefox browser.

The Firefox extension only worked with Firefox 1.5 or 2.0, not Firefox 3.
