Kopalnia Węgla Kamiennego Karol
The Karol hard coal mine (Polish Kopalnia Węgla Kamiennego Karol ; German names Gotthardgrube ) is a decommissioned hard coal mine in the Orzegów district of Ruda Śląska , Poland.
history
The initially independent Gotthard mine in Ruda-Orzegów was founded in the years 1873–1877 to develop the coal reserves of the Schaffgotsch Group between the Paulus and Hohenzollern mines . Initially working independently, in 1882 it became part of the mine consolidated Paulus-Hohenzollern-Grube .
In 1900 a coking plant was set up west of the mine, which processed the coal from the Pochhammer seam.
In 1912 Gotthard had four shafts: "Kynast" (300 m deep) was used for rope travel as well as conveyance from the inverts at 140 m, 200 m and 270 m depth and the "Gotthard" shaft 200 m away for rope travel, ventilation and drainage. At that time, the mine still had a weather and a drainage shaft.
In 1922 the mine was on the Polish side of Upper Silesia and was managed by the newly created Godula SA based in Ruda-Chebzie.
Production ended on January 1, 1970 when the mine was merged with Szombierki.
