Government Relations

The term government relations (abbreviation GR, English literally government relations ) or government maintenance describes a form of lobbyism .

Unlike Public Affairs (PA), which is more oriented towards Public Relations , GR is geared towards direct interaction with the legislature and works at the interface between politics , business and society . This can extend to the municipal level. One of the tasks of government relations professionals, as the Public Affairs Council (PAC) established by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954 in Washington, DC as a counter-organization to the unions , is to inform political decision-makers about issues of their own To inform management or customers of legislative risks and opportunities. and lobbying to ensure that the respective views find their way into political debates and their results.

Even if it is in the European Union . a. gives a definition of government relations by lobby groups , but the concept is widely established , especially in the USA , and is used by a wide variety of actors. The range extends from institutions such as the merger of Governors of the Federal States ( National Governors Association , NGA) to consulting agencies. The establishment goes so far that there are explicit career profiles for this activity even in educational institutions.
