Gracioso

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gracioso is the nickname of the funny person in the Spanish comedy, who is particularly popular in the cloak and sword pieces (Comedias de capa y espada) under different names: Bobo ("fool"), Simple ("simpleton"), Picaro ("crook") etc., occurs. He is the sometimes cunning, sometimes cute simple-minded, but always funny servant or the more refined companion who usually parodies the mainspring of his master.

An example of a Gracioso is the servant Cosme in Calderón's Lady Kobold .
