Grain (music)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A grain is an elementary sound (sound grain) with a duration of 5 to 20 ms. By stringing together grains, new sounds can be generated ( granular synthesis ), comparable to individual images in film.

A grain is determined by the following parameters:

  • Duration of the grain
  • Waveform in the grain
  • Envelope for the grain (e.g. gauss, trapezoid, pulse)
