The Gran Enciclopèdia de la Música , in its own spelling Gran enciclopèdia de la música , abbreviated in literature as GEM or GEMUS , is a music encyclopedia of the Barcelona publisher Enciclopèdia Catalana in Catalan. The work was published in eight volumes from 1999 to 2003. It includes approximately 10,000 articles created by more than 140 professionals. It contains information on music from around the world from all eras and styles. The musical cultures and traditions of the western world have come to the fore. The musical traditions and cultures of the Catalan-speaking areas have been and are presented in great detail . The work is available as an online encyclopedia on the Internet.
