Grigore IV. Ghica

Grigore IV. Ghica or Grigore Dimitrie Ghica (* June 30, 1755 - April 29, 1834 ) was ruler of Wallachia from June 30, 1822 to April 29, 1828 .

Life

In 1822, after the end of the Phanariot rule , the Sultan appointed the native boyars Grigore Dimitrie Ghica in Wallachia and Ionița Sandu Sturdza in Moldavia as princes in order to eliminate the growing antagonism between Romanians and Greeks. Grigore IV. Ghica was ousted after the outbreak of the Russo-Turkish War in 1828.

Six sons (Costache, Iorgu, Scarlat, Grigore, Panait and Dimitrie ) came from the prince's first marriage to Maria Hangerly . With his second wife Eufrosina Săvescu he had two daughters (Maria and Alexandrina). Prince Ghica was Dora d'Istria's uncle .
