Grimm exhibition Haldensleben

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The permanent exhibition The Brothers Grimm and their Family in Museum Haldensleben presents not only the Grimm exhibition in Steinau Castle, but also original testimonials directly from the life of the Brothers Grimm and their immediate family. It is designed with exhibits that were made available by the descendants of Wilhelm Grimm and his wife Dorothea. The descendants' family has been based in Haldensleben for more than 100 years since Wilhelm Grimm's granddaughter Albertine Plock became a teacher there.

After the Second World War, Grimm holdings from the possession of the Plock family were transferred to the Hessian State Archives in Marburg (this handed over the museum part of the acquired Grimm holdings to the administration of the State Palaces and Gardens of Hesse in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ) Museum Haldensleben founded in 1910 and, to a lesser extent, in the Brothers Grimm Museum in Kassel .

The Haldensleben Museum received its first Grimm holdings in 1963, more followed after Albertine Plock's death (1974) and later through further acquisitions from the family. After the first successful special exhibitions in the sixties, the Haldensleben Museum has designed a permanent exhibition with parts of the Grimm holdings since the 1970s. In 2005 the exhibition was reopened in a redesigned form. Some extremely valuable exhibits, such as the only bust of Wilhelm Grimm that was made during his lifetime, have been open to the public for the first time since then. The main focus of the exhibition is, according to the character of the existing holdings, the private and everyday life of the Grimms and the family history.
