Basic components of manuscripts

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term basic components of manuscripts was coined by Lothar Michel and has generally found its way into forensic handwriting examinations.

The basic components of manuscripts are a system of categories to which font characteristics can be assigned. The system is structured completely and hierarchically.

Each feature area of the manuscripts to be compared , which is delimited by a basic component , is analyzed " top-down ", that is, proceeding from the general to the specifics. This allows statements to be made, for example, about the identity of the authorship or the authenticity of the manuscripts to be compared.

Michel's basic components

  • Stroke texture: line voltage , line safety line in itself, Bewegungsvor- and -rückschläge
  • Pressure application: pressure strength, pressure course
  • Flow of movement: relative writing speed, speed of success (text performance), writing parts, degree and type of connection
  • Movement control and shaping: Lines / curves, simplification / expansion, special features of the shaping
  • Direction of movement: movement sequences / inconsistent movements, angles of inclination, line guidance
  • Vertical dimensions: sizes, size proportions
  • Horizontal expansions: primary width / narrow, secondary width / narrow
  • Vertical area structure: top margin, bottom margin, line spacing
  • Horizontal area structure: left margin, right margin, word spacing, area overruns
