Guy Urban Hardy (born April 4, 1872 in Abingdon , Knox County , Illinois , † January 26, 1947 in Cañon City , Colorado ) was an American politician . Between 1919 and 1933 he represented the third constituency of the state of Colorado in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Guy Hardy attended public schools in his home country and then Albion Normal College in Albion . He later studied at the Transylvania University in Lexington ( Kentucky ). Between 1890 and 1893 he worked as a teacher in Illinois and Florida . In 1894 he moved to Cañon City, Colorado, where he published two newspapers from 1895.

Hardy was a postman in Cañon City between 1900 and 1904 and was President of the National Editorial Association from 1918 to 1919 . Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party . In 1918 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington as their candidate in the third district of Colorado . There he took over from Edward Keating of the Democratic Party on March 4, 1919 . After he was confirmed in his mandate in the following six congressional elections, Hardy was able to complete seven terms in Congress by March 3, 1933 .

In 1932 he was defeated by the Democrat John Andrew Martin , who was able to win this election in the then federal trend in favor of the Democrats. After his tenure in Congress was over, Hardy returned to his work as a publisher in Cañon City. He also died in this city in January 1947.
