HMS Scylla

Five ships of the British Royal Navy were named HMS Scylla after the mythological sea monster Skylla .

  • HMS Scylla (1809) , a two-masted sloop with 18 guns, launched in 1809 and scrapped in 1846.
  • HMS Scylla (1856) , a wooden screw-propelled corvette that was launched in 1856 and sold for scrapping in 1882.
  • HMS Scylla (1891) , an Apollo-class cruiser launched in 1891 and served until 1914.
  • HMS Scylla (98) was a Dido-class light cruiser that was launched in 1940, badly damaged by a sea mine in 1944 and sold for scrapping in 1950.
  • HMS Scylla (F71) was a Leander-class frigate that served from 1970 to 1992 and was sunk as an artificial reef off Cornwall in 2004.
