The higher technical institute for food technology - grain industry and biotechnology is located in the municipality of Wels in Upper Austria . The state's private school is the only one of its kind in Austria. It is also special that only one class is accepted per year.

history

In 1921 a milling school was founded. A master school for milling followed in 1966, a technical school for grain industry in 1975, a technical school for food technology and grain industry in 1988, a technical college for food technology and grain industry in 1989, a master school for millers and bakers in 1993, a master school for millers, bakers and confectioners in 1994, the new one in 2005 Biotechnology course.

Up until the 2011/2012 class there was a division into food or biotechnology. Since 2012 there is no longer a split into these two branches, so all students receive the same training. A special feature for an HTL is definitely that the gender ratio is exactly 50:50. In addition, there is only one class with around 30 students per year. As the only school of its kind, it offers several chemical laboratories, a dough rheological laboratory and an in-house bakery and mill. In these rooms, the students are taught in a particularly practice-oriented manner.

The master school is also received by the state of Upper Austria and has private school status with public rights . It is also the only such training facility in Austria. The master school was demanded by the economy in order to train specialists in the field of milling, bakery and confectionery for the new requirements in the industries and in the EU.
