Woman in Haik in Algiers 2015

The Haik ( Arabic الحايك) is an item of clothing worn as a shawl or veil for women and men from the Maghreb .

It consists of a 6 x 2.20 m white cotton cloth that covers the head, shoulders and upper body and sometimes falls elegantly to the side to the floor. Sometimes haiks were also adorned with geometric-abstract motifs such as triangles, diamonds or combs.
