Hanns Christof Brennecke
Hanns Christof Brennecke (born February 15, 1947 in Berlin ) is a German Protestant church historian . He was a professor for early church history at the University of Erlangen.
Life
After graduating from high school in 1965, he studied Protestant theology and Christian archeology at the Humboldt University of Berlin (1965–1970) and the University of Bonn (1970–1972). After the theological exam in Bonn in 1972 he was vicar of the Rhenish regional church and research assistant at the Bonn office of the Patristic Commission (1973–1974). Was then from 1974 assistant at the Department of Ancient Church History Faculty of Theology of the University of Tuebingen in Luise Abramowski , he in 1980 with the work Hilary of Poitiers and the Bishop opposition to Constantius II. Studies on the third phase of the Arian controversy (337-361) Ph.D. and 1986 with the work Studien zur Geschichte der Homöer. The east was habilitated by the end of the homoic imperial church . In 1986/1987 he represented the professorship for Christian archeology in Göttingen and in 1987/1988 the professorship for church history in Heidelberg . In 1988 he became professor for church history at the University of Heidelberg and in 1989 he held the chair for older church history at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . In 1996 he turned down an offer at the Humboldt University in Berlin. In 1997 he was visiting professor at the University of Bologna and an external examinator in 2000 at Makumira University College , Tumaini University in Tanzania . He retired in 2013 .
