Harcourt J. Pratt

Harcourt Joseph Pratt (born October 23, 1866 in Highland , New York , † May 21, 1934 in Highland, New York) was an American politician . Between 1925 and 1933 he represented the state of New York in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Harcourt Joseph Pratt was born in Ulster County a year after the Civil War ended . He attended public schools and the Claverack Academy in Claverack . Then he worked in the lumber and coal business. He also went about banking. Between 1895 and 1897 he served on the Ulster County County Council and in 1897 in the New York State Assembly . He was director of the First National Bank of Highland from 1900 and of the Kingston Trust Company from 1921 . Between 1908 and 1926 he was a member of the Highland Education Committee. Politically, he belonged to the Republican Party .

In the 1924 congressional election for the 69th Congress , Pratt was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Charles B. Ward on March 4, 1925 . He was re-elected three times in a row. Since he on a run again in 1932 renounced, he retired after March 3, 1933, the Congress of.

After his time at Congress, he resumed his previous business activities. He died on May 21, 1934 as a result of a car accident near Highland. His body was then interred in Highland Cemetery .
