Hooded bullet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bonnet bullet or cap bullet is an artillery bullet known from the early 20th century with the common ogival ( ogival ) tip, onto which a conical cap or bonnet made of sheet steel in a slim, sharp shape was screwed on. The hood served to reduce the air resistance and to increase the penetration force when used against armor plates.
