history

The Stalburg House after the restoration (2014)

The Stalburg house was built after 1885 and later bought by the German nobleman Wilhelm von Neuberg . Von Neuberg lived there with his family and bred his own horses on the property. After he died, his family sold the building to a merchant of Jewish descent who lived there until 1938. On September 29, 1938, he sold the house and escaped persecution by the Nazis. The new Czech owner was driven out by the Germans on October 5th of the same year and the house was sold to a German resident of the town. In 1946 it was finally evicted and the building remained empty. It was nationalized in 1957 and privatized again in 1994. Several Roma families lived in the building from 2005 to 2012 and were relocated prior to the restoration, which was completed in March 2014. Václav Klaus and the American lepidopterist Rudolf Mattoni, whose parents are from the area, were present at the opening of the building . The restoration cost 31.5 million crowns . In the future, several families will live in the house. An additional extension to the house caused strong criticism.
