The Heidefriedhof in the Coesfeld district of Lette is a memorial in the Münsterland , North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

The area of the former Reich labor service camp Letter Bruch was used from 1946 by the Coesfeld district for the temporary accommodation of displaced persons from the former German eastern regions. From 1949, the transit camp became the Heidehof , a retirement home for the residents who remained in the camp and who, due to their old age, were no longer able to start a new life.

The total of 119 deceased from the Heidehof were buried 300 m south of the facility in a wood.

In 1960 the Heidehof was closed and the cemetery was no longer used. After the rest periods had expired, the former cemetery was included in the landscape planning as a memorial.

The Heidefriedhof is maintained by the Lette Heimatverein. The Protestant parish commemorates the dead every year on Ascension Day with a prayer on the site.
