Help America Vote Act

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Help America Vote Act (HAVA) is a US federal law that was passed on October 29, 2002.

The HAVA was designed after the counting problems in the 2000 presidential election . Critics note that HAVA encourages the use of voting machines , even though they caused some of the problems in the previous election.

The HAVA introduced a federal electoral roll. HAVA has also introduced the right to cast a provisional vote if a voter is not on the official electoral roll. This vote only becomes valid after the voter has proven its legitimacy.
