Henkel Square
The Henkel Square is a historical place and a museum village in the town of Round Top in Texas .
history
Henkel Square is one of the oldest evidence of European settlement in Texas. Especially Germans found their home there in the first half of the 19th century.
Today it is partly a museum.
Apothecary shop
The pharmacy was originally built in 1875 for Mr. Recknagel by his friend Mr. Henkel and used as a drugstore. Mrs. Recknagel ran a photo studio in the corner of the shop.
Schuhmann Two House
The Schuhmann Two House was founded by the German immigrant Fredrich Schuhmann sr. Built in 1855 by his second wife.
Scherre's Cabin
The Scherres Cabin was originally built in Biegal, Texas in 1820. It consists of hewn oak trunks plastered with clay. Bernard Scherrer, an emigrant from Switzerland, moved into the hut in 1833 at the age of 22 and lived in it until his death in 1845.
Schuhmann One House
The Schuhmann One House was founded by the German immigrant Fredrich Schuhmann sr. Built in 1838 by his first wife. It is made of hewn oak logs and is one of the most primitive buildings in the museum.
