Henry J. Nowak

Henry James Nowak (born February 21, 1935 in Buffalo , New York ) is an American politician . Between 1975 and 1993 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Nowak attended the public schools of his home country and then until 1953 the Riverside High School , also in Buffalo. He then studied at Canisius College there until 1957 . During this time he was a successful college team basketball player . In 1957 and 1958 and again from 1961 to 1962 he served in the US Army . After studying law at the University of Buffalo and his admission to the bar in 1961, he began to work in this profession. In 1964, he was assistant district attorney in Erie County ; from 1964 to 1974 he worked at the local district administration as a comptroller . Politically, he joined the Democratic Party . In 1970 he was a delegate at the regional party convention in New York State; in July 1972 he attended the Democratic National Convention in Miami Beach .

In the 1974 congressional election , Nowak was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the 37th  constituency of New York , where he took up his new mandate on January 3, 1975. After eight re-elections, he was able to complete nine legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1993 . Since 1983 he represented the 33rd district of his state there. He served on the Committee on Public Works and Transportation throughout his tenure as a congressman . In 1992 he renounced another congressional candidacy.

After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, Henry Nowak no longer appeared politically.
