Herman A. Affel
Herman Andrew Affel (born August 4, 1893 in Brooklyn , New York City , † October 13, 1972 ) was an American electrical engineer, inventor and co-inventor of the coaxial cable .
He studied electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology . Here was Arthur E. Kennelly professor whose assistant he became. In 1916 they published their measurements of the skin effect at radio frequencies. This research was supported by Bell Labs . As a variable frequency source they used a Alexanderson machines transmitter with 2 kW and 100 kHz at 20,000 min -1 .
After MIT, he worked at Bell Labs. Among other projects, he worked here with Lloyd Espenschied on the characteristics of the broadband coaxial cable, for which they filed a patent in 1929.
He also worked on combining the coaxial cable with a microwave relay.
