Herman Sätherberg

Karl or Carl Herman Sätherberg (born June 15 or June 19, 1812 in Tumba , †  January 9, 1897 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish doctor and poet .

Life

Sätherberg went to school in Strängnäs and then studied at Uppsala University from 1830 , where he did his fil.kand . dropped. He then moved to Lund University , where he received his doctorate in 1843. In 1844/45 he was a ship's doctor on the corvette Karlskrona during a Mediterranean expedition. He also processed the memories of this trip literarily.

From 1847 to 1877 or 1879 he headed the gymnastic-orthopedic institute in Stockholm , where Selma Lagerlöf was also treated. She describes the institute and the professor in her diary entry of February 11, 1873. Sätherberg, who made numerous trips to find out about the state of orthopedics in Europe, gave, among other things, the medical writings Markingar vid gymnastikens terminologi including utkast till system för kroppställningarnes benämnand (Stockholm 1853), Om några vesentliga fei i barnauppfostran och om det uppväxande slägeets fysiska försämring (Stockholm 1856), Om gymnast.-orthopediska institutet, des ställning och verksamhet (Stockholm 1866) and Om de manikänne the mekaniska (Stockholm 1872). Sätherberg wrote the lyrics to Aftonen , which was composed by Hugo Alfvén , as well as to Hemlängan , which Prince Gustaf (1827-1852) set to music . Aphilda is his best known poem ; His work Blomsterkonungen on Carl von Linné was awarded by the Swedish Academy . Sätherberg wrote a comedy called Bellman and another play called Naima . In 1896 his memoirs came out.
