Hero image

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hero image ( Engl. Literally "heroic image") is a web design -Fachbegriff for a special kind of web banners . A hero image is a large banner image that is prominently placed (in a preferred place) on the web page, mostly at the beginning and centered and taking up the entire width of the screen.

The hero image is often the first thing a visitor sees on a website and its purpose is to provide an overview of the most important content on the site. Depending on the nature of the website, the hero image has a different content: It can, for example, indicate news about the site, present bestsellers on a commercial site or advertise a special service there.

A hero image often combines image and text, it can remain the same (static hero image), it can also be changed or replaced (dynamic hero image).

Dynamic hero images

Rotating slide shows are often used; they are referred to in English as “hero image slider” or “hero slider” for short. “Slider” is the English word for “slider”, which means that different images appear to be pushed onto the screen one after the other.
