Heureka (Science Center)
Heureka is a science center located in Vantaa ( Finland ) . It was the only science center in Fennos Scandinavia when it opened in 1989 and is still considered one of the most important science museums in Fennos Scandinavia.
The first plans for a science center were made in 1982, in 1984 the decision was made to build in Vantaa and in 1987 construction began in the Tikkurila district. The official opening of the museum finally took place on April 28, 1989. The futuristic building was designed by the architects Mikko Heikkinen and Markku Komonen.
The Heureka contains over 100 technical experiments in its permanent exhibition. It has a special effects cinema and a planetarium. In the outer layers there are exhibits on the geological nature of Finland and flower beds, which are used to illustrate the classification of the plants by Carl von Linné .
Since it opened, an average of around 280,000 people have visited the museum each year; this number is subject to strong fluctuations (206,000 to 421,000).
On June 27, 1991 the asteroid (4133) Heureka was named after the Heureka .
