The High Court of Australia is the highest court in Australia. According to Article 71 of the Australian Constitution, it decides as the final court of appeal in civil and criminal matters, but also has the task of deciding in constitutional disputes and can review parliamentary laws through judicial review . The court is based in Canberra . Until the Privy Council (Appeals from the High Court) Act 1975 , apart from constitutional decisions, it was possible to appeal the decision of the High Court by appealing to the Privy Council .

It is also the highest court in the Republic of Nauru .
