The family name Hirche is mainly found in Lusatia. The name can probably be traced back to Saint George, who can be found in the Silesian and Bohemian language areas in Gierke (Jirke), Görke, Tschirch, Tschierschke, Tschersich and similar forms in addition to the Lausitzian Hirche.
