1st chapter

The first part of the lexicon contains for all localities (not just for the municipalities):

  • the current parish membership
  • the date of the first written mention (první písemná zmínka)
  • the population (počet obyvatel) for the years 1869, 1880, 1890, 1900, 1910, 1921, 1930, 1950, 1961, 1970, 1980, 1991, 2001
  • the number of houses (počet domů) for the years 1869, 1880, 1890, 1900, 1910, 1921, 1930, 1950, 1961, 1970, 1980, 1991, 2001

The localities are arranged according to the regions:

  • Prague from page 60
  • Středočeský kraj from page 68
  • Jihočeský kraj from page 188
  • Plzeňský kraj from page 272
  • Karlovarský kraj from page 340
  • Ústecký kraj from page 366
  • Liberecký kraj from page 422
  • Královéhradecký kraj from page 458
  • Pardubický kraj from page 508
  • Vysočina from page 550
  • Jihomoravský kraj from page 610
  • Olomoucký kraj from page 650
  • Zlínský kraj from page 686
  • Moravskoslezský kraj from page 706

The municipalities are arranged alphabetically within the region. Each community is given a consecutive number. The villages belonging to the municipality are also listed in alphabetical order directly below the municipality. On every second page there are the population figures 1970 to 2001 and the number of houses, assigned via the serial number of the municipality.

Part 2

The second part of the lexicon contains a chronological listing of the parish affiliations for all localities. All villages are listed in alphabetical order throughout. For places that originally did not have a Czech name, the German names are also listed. Under the German name there is a reference to the respective Czech name of the place.

History of origin

The predecessor of this encyclopedia was the Encyclopedia of Municipalities of the ČSSR 1850-1970 (Retrospektivní lexikon obcí ČSSR 1850-1970), which was completed in 1978. The idea for this encyclopedia came from Vladimír Srb, who also organized its realization.

The initiator of this lexicon was Jiřina Růžková. It begins with the year 1869 because the first modern census is available from this year.
