The Oberhessische Presse (short OP ) is a regional newspaper for the Marburg-Biedenkopf district , which is published every working day .

The newspaper is published by Hitzeroth Druck + Medien GmbH & Co. KG. With its core edition it holds about 90 percent of the market against the competition of the Hinterländer Anzeiger (formerly: Marburger Neue Zeitung ) and is also the market leader in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district. The two partial editions Marburg & Ostkreis and Hinterland are published. In addition to the print edition, an online edition of the newspaper ( e-newspaper ) has also been published since 2007 . The sold circulation is 36,170 copies, an increase of 13.2 percent since 1998. The publisher also publishes the weekly advertising paper Mein Saturday .

history

The Oberhessische Presse was created in 1951 from the merger of the Oberhessische Zeitung and the Marburger Presse . In 2002 the majority stake of 51 percent was sold by the Hitzeroth family to the external investor, the Madsack publishing company, in which the SPD also owns shares. Wolfram Hitzeroth still held 49 percent of the company. On January 1, 2015, Wolfram Hitzeroth bought back 51 percent of Madsack. He had previously transferred 6 percent of the shares to his wife Luise Hitzeroth. Since then, you have been the two sole owners of Hitzeroth Druck + Medien GmbH & Co. KG and the "Oberhessische Presse". The newspaper received nationwide attention in 2013 as part of the NSU trial when it left the press space allocated to it to the FAZ .

Employee

The publisher currently employs around 120 people. Due to the takeover by the Madsack publishing company, the number of employees has changed significantly in recent years. Before that, the publishing house had up to 600 employees. During this time, the 400 newspaper deliverers still belonged to the publishing house and were paid by it. Today you work for ZVG mbH (newspaper sales company).
