Holly Dolly is an animated cartoon character created for the 2006 commercial release of Ievan Polkka . The figure is a humanized 'sexy' donkey lady in a lilac top and mini skirt.

Behind the Dolly Song marketed with Holly Dolly is the Finnish folk song Ievan Polkka , which was written by the composer Eino Kettunen in the early 1930s . The song tells the story of a young girl who falls in love with a handsome boy while dancing. Before the two get together, however, the angry mother must first be appeased. In the 1990s, the song was recorded by the Finnish vocal quartet Loituma and hit the charts in their home country. Ten years later this shot became an internet phenomenon: An internet user created a short Flash film in which an animation of the character Orihime Inoue from the JapaneseThe anime series Bleach was combined with a part of Ievan Polkka in an endless loop. The clip began to circulate through the forums and blogs of the Internet, which is why various cover versions were subsequently created.

Two Italian producer sampelten the uptake of Loituma produced therefrom and a catchy house track . For the clip of their version, they created the donkey Holly Dolly to exploit the internet phenomenon. On the YouTube platform alone , the video was viewed more than four million times.

In August 2006 the remix was released as a single by the Hamburg record label Kontor Records , which hit the German charts in early September.
