The wood Weiher is a pond on the municipal area of the municipality Neukirch in Bodenseekreis in southeastern Baden-Württemberg .
location
The area around the lake naturally belongs to the Westallgäu hill country . The approximately 1.2 hectare large wooden pond is there in a depression at about 570 m above sea level. NN height about one kilometer from the center of Neukirch in the middle of a 1 km² large forest island, which is broken through by a long meadow bay from the west. The forest is divided into the districts of Oberer Schorren , Unterer Schorren and Seehalden , each with a central elevation. In addition to the main town of Neukirch in the south-east, the forest is surrounded by the associated hamlets of Landolz (north), Neuhaus (east) and Oberrussenried (north-west).
Hydrology
The wooden pond was created around 16,000 years ago as a meltwater lake towards the end of the last ice age. It has roughly the contour of a rounded triangle with sides between 120 and 140 meters. A narrow silting belt as well as reed and reed areas surround the bank. On the surface, only a short upper course of the Seewiesengraben flows to the pond from the Ried, which then flows through the Igelsee nature reserve in an initially north, soon east direction to Essach , then further over the Haslach , the Untere Argen and the Argen in a wide right-hand arc into the about 14 kilometers southwest of it drained Lake Constance .
Flora and fauna
The wooden pond is the habitat and spawning area for common toads , common frogs and newts as well as carp , crucian carp , roach , rudd and tench .

Today you can fish in the wooden pond and swim in a limited area.
Hiking trails
Several signposted hiking trails run along the pond , including the second stage of the Jubiläumsweg Bodenseekreis , a 111-kilometer hiking trail that was signposted in 1998 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Bodenseekreis. It leads over six stages through the hinterland of Lake Constance from Kressbronn via Neukirch, Meckenbeuren , Markdorf , Heiligenberg and Owingen to Überlingen .
