Hongyan-1 (Chongqing) is a Chinese communications satellite .

He was born on December 29, 2018 at 08:00 UTC (along with six Yunhai-2 weather satellite) with a Long March-2D - carrier rocket from the rocket launch site Baikonur Jiuquan brought into a 1100 km high orbit.

Hongyan-1 is the first in a constellation of more than 300 low-orbit satellites designed to provide global communications services. The system of satellites and data centers will be built in three phases. It will consist of 54 main satellites, which will be supplemented by another 270 smaller satellites to coordinate the system. The Hongyan satellite system is being developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).

Hongyan-1 is scheduled to test the L- and Ka-band communications payload. It is one of nine satellites to be launched for the pilot phase by 2020. The first 60 satellites, which form the first phase of the Hongyan Constellation's deployment, are expected to be in orbit and operational by around 2023, with the entire satellite system expected to be completed by 2025.
