After studying philosophy at the Instituto Filosófico Miguel Rúa in Córdoba (1962–63), he studied theology at the Instituto Teológico Villada (1966–67) and at the Studium Theologicum (1967–69) in Córdoba. He did his doctorate and habilitation at the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg under Rudolf Schnackenburg , one of the leading Catholic exegetes in the field of the Second Vatican Council . The main research areas of Horacio E. Lona in the New Testament are Paul and the Pauline letters , especially the Deuteropaulinic letters to the Colossians and Ephesians, as well as questions of the New Testament eschatology . In addition to the New Testament, Horacio E. Lona is interested in the Christian literature of the 2nd century. In this area his comments on the First Letter of Clement , on the writing to Diognet and on the anti-Christian treatise by the Platonic philosopher Kelsus should be mentioned. His participation in the International Working Group Second Century (IAG) , which he set up in 1992 together with Norbert Brox and Ferdinand R. Prostmeier from the University of Regensburg and their annual meeting at the University of Applied Sciences , is also due to his interest in the literature and history of early Christianity Benediktbeuern take place. One of the fruits of this working group is the initiation and publication of the Commentary on Early Christian Apologists (KfA) by Verlag Herder, together with Norbert Brox, Kurt Niederwimmer , Jörg Ulrich and Ferdinand R. Prostmeier.
