Hubertus is a German manufacturer of cutlery based in Solingen . The focus of the company, which is run by the third generation of the founding Ritter family, is the development, production and worldwide distribution of knives for hunting , sport and leisure as well as rescue knives .

history

The company was founded on March 1st, 1932 by Kuno Ritter in Solingen- Gräfrath and initially concentrated on the manufacture of classic knife blades . In the following years, Bavarian stiletto knives, cutlery , household and professional knives were also produced. In 1933, Kuno Ritter was the third company in Solingen to receive approval for the production and delivery of "knife knives and service daggers". Due to the war, business operations ceased in 1941, and knife production began again in 1946. In 1950, with the purchase of the Solingen trading company J. Albert Schmidt Nachf., Which Kuno Ritter had supplied with knives since the company was founded, several word and image trademarks were taken over, including the Hubertus brand, the patron saint of hunters . In the same year, the company relocated from Nümmener Str. 4 to the current production site in Wuppertaler Str. 147 and the name was changed to Hubertus Schneidwarenfabrik Kuno Ritter KG. In 1961, Kuno Ritter acquired the steel goods factory Gebrüder Gräfrath in Solingen-Widdert and incorporated it into the Hubertus cutlery factory Kuno Ritter KG. Hubertus is now in the third generation. The company is the international right holder of the Hubertus brand, which has been registered for cutlery since 1899.

Products and manufacture

Hubertus produces Hubertus brand knives at its Solingen location and develops and manufactures cutlery under the name "Countryline" in other European countries. The production program includes traditional hunting knives such as Nicker , Hirschfänger and Saufänger as well as sports knives and pocket knives , Bavarian traditional stilettos and cutlery with deer horn handles in up to 300 different variants as well as rescue knives since 1997 . Classic lever-operated switch knives ("Springer") are produced in a wide variety of models and are synonymous with Hubertus knives, especially in the USA. Hubertus primarily uses natural materials such as deer horn, various woods, ram's horn (big horn), milled and colored buffalo bones, mother-of-pearl, buffalo horn (colorful horn) and ivory with scrimshaw decoration as handle materials. Hubertus introduced limited knife series on the company's 50th anniversary in 1982. A ten-year annual knife series began with an annual knife with Damascus steel blade presented in 1986, limited to 150 pieces per year. In 1996 the patented Hubertus Rescue Tool was developed. Over 1800 fire brigades and rescue services worldwide now use Hubertus rescue knives as part of their protective equipment. The Hubertus Rescue Tool, which can be operated with one hand as a switchblade, is not subject to the weapons law as a tool.

As part of contract manufacturing, Hubertus also produces cutlery with their own trademarks for renowned knife manufacturers in Solingen.

For the maritime sector, Hubertus, in cooperation with the British Royal Yachting Association with the RRK Race & Rescue Knife series, has developed knives for emergencies and made it possible for sailors of the British Olympic team to use them.

Awards

1997 Award of the Hubertus rescue knife Rescue Tool by the technology centers Wuppertal-Remscheid -Solingen as "outstanding innovation", in 1998 by the trade magazine VISIER as "direct hit 1997". On the occasion of the "Wild und Hund 2011" exhibition, a fixed hunting knife from the "Countryline" series was awarded the "Golden Boar" from the Jäger trade magazine .
