Coffin sagging

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Hufbeinsenkung is a disease of equines, mainly horses concerned.

It occurs very often in laminitis , but it also occurs in animals whose heels are too high or in a hollow wall . This creates a change in the coffin angles of the hoof capsule in which the coffin bone is suspended. If there is a change in the angle, the position of the coffin bone in the coffin capsule also changes and the coffin bone suspension is overloaded, which can then lead to a sagging of the coffin bone. In the worst case, the coffin bone can drill through the underside (sole) of the hoof.

By X-ray can be determined how far the bone has already been down. The bone can move back again if it does not develop too much. Of course, this presupposes the elimination of the causes.
