The Human Betterment Foundation (HBF) was a eugenic society in the USA.
The HBF was founded in 1928 by ES Gosney . Society advocated the compulsory sterilization of below average intelligent people.
Originally, the board of trustees consisted of Henry M. Robinson (a banker from Los Angeles), George Dock (a doctor from Pasadena), David Starr Jordan (rector of Stanford University), Charles Goethe ( philanthropist from Sacramento), Justin Miller (dean of the college of law at the University of Southern California ), Otis Castle (attorney from Los Angeles), Joe G. Crick (vegetable gardener from Pasadena), and biologist Paul Popenoe . Later members were the intelligence researcher Lewis Terman , William B. Munro (Harvard professor of political science), Herbert M. Evans (professor of anatomy at Berkley) and Samuel J. Holmes (zoologist).
ES Gosney died in 1942. As a result, his daughter dissolved the company and the money flowed into the Gosney research fund of the California Institute of Technology.
